Joan Mercury is a vibrant singer/song-writer from New York. I had the honor of capturing some studio portraits of her, and I got to know her a little bit. The whole session was filled with laughs. Joan joked that her live performances are a two-for-one deal—you get music and comedy.
I asked Joan to tell me a little more about herself, and here is what she had to say:
“Almost a year after releasing my debut album, I’m finally ready to perform live shows. I spent the last few months laying low but concentrating on my mental and emotional health. Once you start the journey of self, it truly is like opening Pandora’s box. I had to remember why I started making music in the first place.”
“Don’t get me wrong, getting play counts and reviews written about you is great and all but it’s not what drove me or what truly gave me fulfillment. I genuinely love helping others though my experiences and I couldn’t do that until I dealt with myself first.”
“Having someone tell you how your music saved them from a dark place is a fulfillment like I’ve never known. Mercury Rising saved my life and is a capsule of the inner growth needed to become a self-loving vessel through hardship.”
