The girls of The Visual Chrysalis Collective shared Curly Girl Collective’s upcoming Curlfest event to the group chat, and I suggested we all meet up and photograph attendees! So Roody I took the train and then an Uber to Randall’s Island Park to meet up with the group.

As soon as we walked in, we spotted three of our friends. The event was massive, so I wasn’t surprised to run into familiar faces.
Nesshell (the VCC founder) said she was waiting in line at a food truck, so we joined the line and I snapped some photos of curly girls who were waiting, too.
On our way to where the rest of the group was seated, I spotted Angie & Lorena. I absolutely LOVE Angie’s crocheted outfit (of course, because I’m a crochet addict). And it turns out that they’re both Dominican. So we’re sisters :)
Calandra & Zelenia look like life-long besties, and Calandra was wearing a crocheted dress! Crochet was everywhere!
Tauri was just chillin in a tree. I couldn’t walk by her without snapping a photo haha.
These two sisters got food from the same truck we went to.
Rudy has such a beautiful smile, and I’m so happy I was able to capture her hanging out with her friends.
Food + Music = The Perfect Combination
I almost didn’t walk up to Samantha because she was in the middle of a conversation, but I’m glad Roody convinced me to ignore my shyness and go say hey :)
These girls were having mad fun with the chalk dust!
I fangirled so hard when I saw Moshoodat. It’s so weird when you’ve been following and admiring someone for so long on Instagram and then you see her in person. I HAD TO SAY SOMETHING! And she was super cool, too :)
I need someone to look at me the way Imani looks at her man :)
OF COURSE I had to take some photos of Faith!
I love these two :)
We ran into some more familiar faces. Everybody was here! That’s so wild.
I realized that the sun was making everyone look even more like goddesses, so I had to stop and pose. And by “pose” I mean “dance.”
I somehow convinced Shakasis to bust a move :)
Evie & Virgil… I. CAN. NOT.
Can someone please tell Sophia how adorable she looks in this photo? Because she didn’t believe me when I told her haha.
We left the park at 7:15, but couldn’t get a Lyft until 8:50 because all the drivers kept canceling on us. So we were basically stranded until I had the brilliant idea of calling the last driver before the ride suddenly “disappeared.” It turned out that there is a toll to get into the island, and the drivers didn’t want to pay. So they cancelled the ride. FIVE TIMES! Uber and Lyft drivers did that. So I told the driver that I would include the toll in his tip. We just wanted to go home!!
And it worked :)
So the Curlfest was really cool and I can’t wait to go back again next year. See you then!
